British Solo Trials Championship...
Written by Double Five
Thursday, 28 August 2008

www.tmxnews.co.uk...comes to Kent on Sunday 7th September 2008!

This attached advert should have gone out in the August TSM concerning the only round of the British Trials Championship in our area.

Having watched the Inter Centre Event a couple of years ago, ridden there myself at a Centre round and more recently attended a training session it is a good place to watch how it should be done - so take the opportunity if you can!

Also those who wish to offer to assist can get in touch with me or Neil Martin as there are already 4 or 5 of us Double Fivers helping one way or another and car sharing might be in order.

Steve.

P.S. If you just want to go along and watch, entrance fee is only £3 on the Sunday - it's open to the public.

2009 National Trials Championships
Written by Double Five
Wednesday, 13 August 2008

Clubs are invited to submit applications before the end of August 2008 to host national events for 2009 directly to the ACU.

There are no less than nine Trials Championships, plus the two one-off events; Inter Centre Team trials for 'modern' and pre-70 machines. Apart from the British Solo Championship, the other championships are run like Centre trials, with the addition of riders from all parts of the UK entering.

The Championships are:

British Solo - the country's top riders on modern solos, plus an 'Intermediate' class being introduced in 2009.

Novogar - for 'Clubmen' on modern bikes (pages 195 - 196 of the 2008 ACU Handbook gives details)

Traditional Trials Series - for Pre-75 solos, twinshock, air-cooled monos and older riders on current machines (pages 196 - 198)

Sidecar - for modern sidecars; 5 classes from Championship to Newcomer (pages 193 - 194)

Sammy Miller Products - 8 classes for Pre-64 and Pre-69 solos and sidecars, and twinshocks (pages 198 -199)

Trail Bike - for bikes listed by manufacturers as Trail Bikes (pages 202 - 203)

Women and Girls - 2 classes for women and 3 for girls run under Youth rules (pages 201 - 202)

Youth A and B - for riders aged between 13 and 17 on modern solo bikes (pages 199 - 200)

Youth C and D - for riders aged between 6 and 13 on modern solo bikes (pages 199 - 200)

One important (and welcome) change for 2009 is that TSR 22A, the complex "Stop Permitted" method of marking, is being changed. The marking will be:

0 = clean

1 = Footing once ("or stopping once" is deleted)

2 = Footing twice ("or footing once whilst stopped, or stopping twice" is deleted)

3 = Footing more than twice ("and/or stopping" is deleted)

Failure part (d) "the rider intentionally moves either wheel to the side WITHOUT FORWARD MOTION" is deleted completely.

A new rule states that an organiser may, with the agreement of the Permit Issuing Authority, apply a time limit to each section (the same time limit must be for every section in a trial).

All this means that it's back to how we used to mark sections about 10 years ago, with the sensible addition of a section time limit!
